Police treat Belfast shooting that left man (29) in critical condition as attempted murder

Police investigating the shooting of a man in his 20s in North Belfast last night are treating the incident as an attempted murder.

The alarm went off around 11:15 p.m. with reports that a man had been shot in the Hopewell Crescent area of ​​the city.

The PSNI attended together with members of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

A 29-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries, where he remains in critical condition.

A short time later, police received a report that a burned-out vehicle had been found on the Fortwilliam golf course near Grays Lane.

The car, which police suspect may have been used in connection with the shooting, has been recovered for forensic examination.

“This shooting was a cruel, brutal and violent attempt to kill, carried out in a densely populated residential area,” said PSNI Chief Detective Inspector Natalie McNally.

“We urge anyone who is in the Hopewell Crescent area last night, or who may have any information that may help us with our inquiries, to contact detectives,” McNally said.

“No matter how small or insignificant you think your information may seem, we recommend that you present yourself to the police and do not share it on social media,” he said.

Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has seen a dark-colored saloon speeding out of the area just before 11:15 p.m.
