British police have been authorized to charge Metropolitan Police officer Wayne Couzens with murder and kidnapping in connection with the death of Sarah Everard.

Mr. Couzens will appear in Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow for his first hearing.

Rosemary Ainslie, Head of Special Crimes for the UK Crown Prosecution Service, said: “After the Metropolitan Police submitted evidence related to Sarah Everard’s death, the CPS authorized the police to charge Wayne Couzens with murder. and kidnapping.

“The role of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a crime, but to make fair, independent and objective assessments of whether it is appropriate to bring charges to court for consideration.”

Earlier today, British police confirmed that a body found in a forest outside London was that of Ms Everard, whose disappearance last week has sparked anger and fears among women for her safety.

Everard, 33, disappeared while walking home from a friend’s house in south London last Wednesday.

The case has sparked a flood of personal accounts from women about their own experiences and the fear of walking the streets alone at night.

Speaking outside London Police Headquarters earlier today, Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave confirmed that the body found two days ago was that of the missing woman.

Before the remains were formally identified, Ms. Everard’s family paid tribute to their “beautiful daughter Sarah”.

Police searching for Sarah Everard found human remains in a wooded area in Ashford, Kent, on Wednesday.

“I can now confirm that it is Sarah Everard’s body. Clearly, Sarah’s family has been updated with this distressing news,” Deputy Commissioner Nick Ephgrave said this afternoon.
