Istanbul Basaksehir’s players left the pitch during their Champions League Group H match at Paris St Germain after the Turkish club accused a referee of racism.

Basaksehir’s assistant coach Pierre Webo received a red card in the 13th minute by an assistant referee and the Turkish team left the field after about 10 minutes of discussions with Romanian referee Ovidiu Hategan. PSG also left the field.

“Our assistant coach, Pierre Webo, has been sent off with a ‘racist’ word by the fourth official. of the party. The match was stopped for a while, “Istanbul Basaksehir said on the club’s official Twitter account.

The state news agency Anadolu quoted club president Basaksehir as saying that the players would not return to the field while the fourth official was still there.

“Following an alleged incident involving the fourth official, the match was temporarily suspended,” UEFA said in a statement.

“After consulting with both teams, it was agreed that the match would be restarted with a different fourth official.

“UEFA will fully investigate the matter and they will communicate further in due course.”

After almost two hours of suspension, the game was finally abandoned around 11:30 p.m. local time.
