Plans have been revealed for the development of 1,000 apartments to be built on South Cork’s docks.
Marina Quarter Limited has published detailed plans for the 12 apartment blocks on its website.
The site on Center Park Road has hosted the successful Live at the Marquee concert series for the past decade.
Due to the pandemic, the concerts did not take place this year but it has already been confirmed that Live at the Marquee would return to the existing site in 2021.
According to plans, the 1,002 apartments will be a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
The 12 blocks, which will range from four to 14 stories, will also include commercial units, a Montessori school, a nursery, a medical center, and two community resource spaces.
There are also plans for a bar, cafeteria, and performance area.
A planning application for a planning permit period of 10 years has been submitted to An Bord Pleanála.
As the development is for more than 100 homes, it qualifies as a Strategic Housing Development and the application can be made directly to An Board Pleanála.
An Environmental Impact Assessment Report has been prepared and submitted with the application.
Ford’s former distribution site was sold for more than € 15 million by NAMA at the end of 2018 following a sale process that attracted great national and international interest given its potential to transform the city’s docks over the next decade.
According to company records from Marina Quarter Ltd, the company was incorporated in June 2018 to focus on the delivery of residential homes for resale primarily on this site.
During the period, records show that the company entered into a licensing agreement with a third party, understood to be related to the Live at the Marquee concerts, which generated a rental income of € 20,000 and a profit before tax of € 3,000.
