HEALTH MINISTER STEPHEN Donnelly has signed a regulation authorizing the use of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine in Ireland.

The first shipment of the vaccine will arrive on St. Stephen’s Day and the first doses will be administered on December 30.

In a tweet sent tonight, Wicklow’s TD said he was “delighted to report” the news.

“In what has been such a difficult year for many, it’s really great to see,” he said.

The vaccine will first be delivered to priority groups according to the government vaccine working group implementation plan.

Earlier this week, Donnelly said that nursing home residents are expected to have received their two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine “sometime in February.”

The announcement comes as 922 cases of the virus were reported in Ireland today. Eight other people with the disease have died, bringing the number of Covid-related deaths in Ireland to 2,192 since the start of the pandemic.

Earlier today, Medical Director Dr. Tony Holohan said: “Unfortunately, none of the indicators of this disease show encouraging signs.
