People don’t use their masks correctly

Acting Medical Director Ronan Glynn warned the public that improper use of face covers could increase the risk of contracting Covid-19.

Face coverings are now mandatory in various settings, including on public transportation and at point of sale.

Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing on Monday night, Dr. Glynn said that while compliance with regulations for face masks was high, many people were wearing them incorrectly.

“If you are using them, use them correctly. We are seeing too many people walking with them under their chin, we are seeing too many people with their noses exposed, ”Dr. Glynn said. “None of those things provide protection and can increase risk.”

Dr. Glynn added that Nphet is “delighted” to see so many people wearing face masks when appropriate, but asked them to watch the HSE guide or videos on the correct way to use them.
