Three separate facilities in Cork City have confirmed positive Covid-19 cases this morning.

The Care Choice infirmary in Montenotte has confirmed an incidence of Covid-19 in its facilities after “proactive testing”.

Care Choice says that in the interests of residents and their families, they will not provide the exact number of positive cases at the site.

In a statement, the home said they are communicating with the HSE and continue to follow all the HSE and WHO protocols.

Management says they continue to take care of residents and staff to the best of their ability. They are ensuring that they are fully staffed and that they have the proper personal protective equipment.

The house has thanked all its staff for their “tireless attention and commitment to residents.” They also commend family members for their support and understanding, particularly in relation to visitation restrictions during the Covid19 crisis.

“We would like to assure our residents and their families that we have fully staffed and an adequate supply of Personal Protective Equipment in place.

For confidentiality reasons, CareChoice says they will not release details of any other Covid-19 cases externally.

Meanwhile, an employee at Penney’s Wilton store also confirmed a positive case of the virus.

The company says it has detailed contingency procedures, in case any other of its employees test positive.

They claim to have been in contact with the health authorities and that a thorough cleaning of the premises has already been carried out.

“Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our customers and employees, and we have detailed contingency plans in place in the event that one of our employees tests positive,” the company said.

Douglas Community School in Cork City has also confirmed two cases of Covid-19.

In a letter from HSE to parents, it was stated that the transmission link was identified outside of the school. The two cases are also linked.

A public health risk assessment has been carried out.

Parents of the children who are considered close contacts of the confirmed cases have been contacted and informed accordingly.
