A WOMAN PEDESTRIAN has died after a road collision in Co Galway tonight.

Gardaí is investigating the collision, which occurred on the R336 Bearna-to-Spidéal road in Furbo.

Gardaí arrived at the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m.

A woman in her 50s was discovered with serious injuries. Gardaí says she is believed to have been hit by a vehicle, which was unable to remain at the scene.

The woman was then taken to Galway University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later. An autopsy is scheduled to be placed at a later date.

The road will be closed overnight and a technical examination by forensic collision investigators will take place in the morning.

Gardaí in Salthill is asking for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
