A pedestrian (50 years old) was killed in an accident on the N5 in Strokestown, Co Roscommon tonight.
ardaí in Castlerea are investigating the fatal accident that took place around 5.30pm tonight on the N5 between Strokestown and Scramogue Cross, Co. Roscommon.
The driver (60 years old) of the car was unharmed and did not require medical attention.
The pedestrian was fatally injured when she was hit by a vehicle and her body has since been moved from the scene to the morgue at Roscommon University Hospital.
An autopsy will be conducted at a later date and the road remains closed at this time as forensic collision investigators are conducting a technical examination.
It is believed to be mid-morning on Saturday before it reopens, with local deviations in place.
Gardaí has asked for witnesses to appear.
“Gardaí is also attractive to any road user who may have camera footage (including dash cam) traveling in the area at the time to make these images available to Gardaí,” said a Garda spokesperson.
