A pedestrian (50 years old) was killed in an accident on the N5 in Strokestown, Co Roscommon tonight.

The driver (60 years old) of the car was unharmed and did not require medical attention.

The pedestrian was fatally injured when she was hit by a vehicle and her body has since been moved from the scene to the morgue at Roscommon University Hospital.

An autopsy will be conducted at a later date and the road remains closed at this time as forensic collision investigators are conducting a technical examination.
