Passengers flying into Dublin Airport will be able to travel to other counties while the capital is closed.

This is similar to the restrictions that were introduced at Kildare, Laois, and Offaly, where tourists were allowed to travel through the counties.

Those arriving at Dublin Airport will be able to move by public and private transport to the destinations where they will be staying, reports the Irish Independent.

Today, Taoiseach Michael Martin and his predecessor, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar, will meet with a special Cabinet COVID subcommittee to decide whether Dublin moves to Level 3 of Living with COVID, the virus management plan they unveiled on Tuesday.

The Taoiseach is expected to make the announcement around 6pm today.

Dubliners face new travel restrictions, much tougher meeting measures, and bans on all sporting events and amateur games if the official NPHET recommendations made yesterday get the green light.

A decision will be made later today on the move to Level 3, even if the Cabinet accepts the health experts’ request that the dining room inside Dublin’s pubs and restaurants be stopped, effectively closing down those businesses that cannot provide take-out services.
