Gardai has continued checkpoints in Dublin this weekend as part of their efforts to monitor compliance with Level 5 restrictions in Ireland.

But it appears that some lawbreakers are being detained for other crimes.

A driver, who did not have insurance or a driver’s license, was found to have 5,000 euros worth of cocaine and other controlled drugs worth 13,500 euros in his car.

The discovery occurred on the N7 and follows a series of seizures in the city.

Gardai said: “Gardaí stopped a driver at a #OperationFanacht checkpoint on the N7 for not having insurance or a driver’s license.

“After further investigation of the vehicle, the Gardaí discovered 5,000 euros of cocaine and another 13,500 euros in controlled drugs.”

On Wednesday, € 30,000 worth of cannabis was found inside crisp packages and seized as part of an intelligence-led Garda raid in North Dublin.

A woman was also arrested after clever hiding was not enough to prevent a seizure.

Gardai and Revenue officials raided a home in Artane where the unique discovery was made.
