A viral video of a group of Dublin girls gambling on who will get the coronavirus after a friend tested positive has been met with backlash online.

The video, posted on the social media site TikTok, shows the girls from Skerries in North Co Dublin guessing who would contract the killer virus after one tested positive shortly after a night they spent together.

His 55-second clip comes as two local sports clubs announced that they were taking steps to prevent the spread of the deadly virus among their members.

Local GAA club Skerries Harps announced that it will suspend all activities for its Adult Ladies Football and Camogie teams as a precautionary measure, while Skerries Town FC also announced that it would cancel activities for the time being.

None of the girls are believed to play for the clubs in question, but they would be close contacts of some members.

A source from Skerries told the Irish Mirror: “The girls in the video are part of a much larger group of friends who have been hanging out during the lockdown.

“One of the group started to feel ill after going out to dinner in Dublin.

“That individual went and took a Covid test that came back positive, prompting the entire group of friends to wait for tests and to isolate themselves.

Then, jokingly, one did an insensitive TikTok of the group that predicts which test would turn out positive considering their latest outing.

“None of the group knew they had Covid before licking their faces, et cetera.

“The girls have acknowledged that they shouldn’t have been sharing drinks, licking faces, et cetera, and that TikTok was wrong and insensitive.

“His actions are not 100% acceptable, but this online harassment is not active.”

A statement from Skerries Harps reads: “The Club made the decision to suspend all activities of our Adult Ladies Football & Camogie teams until further notice.

“While none of our Club members have tested positive for Covid-19 at this time, we believe this is the appropriate course of action to take in the best interest of all our Club members and the community at general.

“The club has followed all HSE, Government and GAA guidelines in recent days and will continue to do so in the future.”

Skerries Town FC

Skerries Town FC said: “In light of recent events in Skerries, we have decided to postpone all club activities until more information is available for further evaluation by the club. We will update it as soon as possible.

Please note that this is a precautionary measure. There are no suspected cases of Covid-19 in the club. “
