Ongoing concern for Cork City as Cork’s Covid-19 hotspots were revealed

The latest figures have shown that Covid-19 incident rates have risen by an average of 72 percent in Cork City in recent days.

The number of confirmed cases of the virus in the city increased by 421 people between October 12 and 19, with an average of about 60 additional cases each day.

The figures, available on the Covid-19 Data Hub, show information at the LEA level (local electorate areas) as of October 19.

There have been a total of 1,087 confirmed cases of the virus in the city as of Oct. 19, compared to 604 confirmed cases in other parts of the county.

A total of 665 additional cases were identified between October 12 and 19 in Cork: 421 in the city and 244 in other parts of the county.

The highest incident rate in Cork remains in Cork City South Central, with a rate of 804 per 100,000 people, making it the highest rate in Munster.

The rate is more than double the current national average incident rate of 302, with Cork’s average rate now at 797.43, while it was measured at 604.20 on October 12.

The total cumulative number of confirmed cases in Cork is 4,329 to date, with an additional 98 cases confirmed today, October 22.

Incident rates in various Local Election Areas (LEAs) have increased dramatically based on the data, with Bantry West Cork experiencing an incident rate increase of 141.5%, Mallow 130% and Kanturk 125%.

The number of cases has also increased across the board except Midleton, where there was a slight drop.
