Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not survive the season as Manchester United manager, according to expert Danny Murphy.

He believes Solskjaer has been let down by the club’s recruiting team, which failed to deliver a right winger and center half.

United have been boosted by the signings of left-back Alex Telles and forward Edinson Cavani, but the rest of the signings have been of young, untested players.

They lost 6-1 to Tottenham in the last game ahead of the international break as pressure mounts on Solskjaer.

He told the Soccer Index Podcast: “Manchester United have had a very shaky start to the season and I don’t see them qualify for the Champions League this season.

“I don’t expect Solskjaer to survive the season as Manchester United manager. I like Solskjaer, but the recruitment has disappointed him and I hope he will pay the price.

“I think the balance of the team is not correct on defense and it is too easy to face them.

“Their captain Harry Maguire has been well below his best and obviously has distractions off the field. Even Wan-Bissaka looks like a shadow of the player we saw tackling for the club last season.

“Pogba and Fernandes are exciting creative talents, but with both of them in midfield I think I leave too much responsibility on each other to cover them. “They just won’t be competitive as long as they concede goals like they do.”
