Officer injured after Garda squad cars were stoned while five youths arrested in Galway

A member of the Garda was injured Saturday night after a large group of youths hit patrol cars in Galway.

Officers had been called to Millers Lane, Rahoon at 7:45 pm after several public order incidents were reported.

Upon arrival, the large group of youths began to throw stones and stones at Gardai.

An officer suffered minor injuries when struck with a stone, while a patrol car was seriously damaged.

Gardai remained in the area for more than two hours and finally dispersed the entire group at 10 p.m.

Five youths were arrested during the night, but have since been released.

A Garda spokesperson said: “During the course of these incidents, a large number of young people were observed in the area. The youths threw stones and other items in the direction of Gardaí and the patrols.

“A Garda received a minor injury when it was struck by a stone. A Garda patrol car was also damaged during the incident when a window broke a window.

“All the people were evicted from the area at 10 pm.

“Five young men were arrested during the night. They have since been released into the custody of their parents.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
