The Brexit Party leader appears to have made the bet after former Trump attorney Michael Cohen paid $ 10,000 for a Joe Biden win.
He even posted a photo of himself holding a sign showing the 8/15 bet in Washington DC with the Capitol building in the background when the polls closed on November 3, and declared that he was “absolutely optimistic” to win.
Farage said: “Trump has the momentum, we know what happened in 2016 … I think it’s a very silly bet from Michael Cohen.”
Meanwhile, Cohen, who was sentenced to three years in 2018 for campaign finance violations, told the betting firm that Trump “will be the loser.” He added: “Donald J. Trump does not care about anyone or anything but himself.”
Just over two hours after Biden’s win was declared, Cohen tweeted to say that he had won the bet with a 1-2 chance.
He said the money would go to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the nonprofit advocacy and legal organization, and suggested they could help Reality Winner, a former intelligence specialist who was jailed for delivering classified material to a news website.
“Congratulations to @ACLU for being the recipient of the @guesser bet I made on @JoeBiden for #win!” Cohen tweeted. “I just ask that you use it to help with someone like #RealityWinner and #PrisonReform.”
The betting firm has yet to comment on whether the bet has been paid. Several other firms have confirmed they are paying for a Biden win, but others said they were not.
Paddy Power told impatient players that he was waiting “until there is clarity around the ongoing counts and any potential legal challenges to the results before we can resolve the market.”
Farage did not address the bet in his first responses to Biden’s victory.
In a call to talkRADIO after Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania, Farage accepted that the former vice president was “more likely” to become president despite attempts by the Trump campaign to take legal action.
“Realistically, the outcome of this election is unlikely to change,” he said.
“But there’s another way of looking at it. He launched this superhuman effort, won 70 million votes, got more black votes, more Latino votes than the Republican party got. He won lower house seats. All that means is that Biden is indeed. a jerk president. Actually, Trump has vastly exceeded expectations. ”
Farage also claimed that Trump would remain the leader of the Republican Party and “will see this as a temporary setback.”
He later took to Twitter to complain: “Four years ago, when Trump won, the stations showed scenes of people in shock and crying. Today, a statement from Biden shows coverage that would make you think that Jesus had returned.”
Several Twitter users responded by mocking his losing bet.
