NI registers the fewest new cases of Covid in 6 months

Northern Ireland has recorded its fewest new Covid-19 cases in six months.

87 new cases were registered from tests on 1,010 people.

One more death has been recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the official Health Department figure to 2,105.

The seven-day incidence rate per 100,000 people in Northern Ireland is 55.8, also the lowest in six months.

The area with the highest rate remains Mid Ulster at 75.9, while Fermanagh and Omagh remain the lowest at 35.1.

There are 160 confirmed coronavirus patients in the hospital, with 15 in the ICU, 12 of whom are on ventilators.

It comes as groups of seven-year-old schoolchildren in Northern Ireland returned to school today.

Primary school students from P4 to P7 resumed face-to-face learning, as did secondary school students in the 12-14 age groups.

Primary school pupils from years P1 to P3, kindergarten and preschool children are already back, having returned on March 8th.

The last cohort, high school students in grades 8-11, will return to school on April 12 after the Easter holidays.

The winter increase in Covid-19 cases forced the closure of schools in January. Only vulnerable children and those of key workers had been able to attend classes before this month.

The schedule for returning to school was agreed upon by the Stormont ministers as part of the initial steps in their exit strategy.

Several restrictions for society at large will be removed next month, including:

From April 1

– Up to six people from no more than two households can meet outdoors in a private garden.

– Ten people, from no more than two households, can participate in outdoor sports activities. Golf courses to reopen (clubhouses will be closed).

– Click shopping and pickup are allowed at garden centers and plant nurseries.

From April 12

– Up to 10 people from no more than two households can meet outdoors in a private garden.

– Click and collect at all non-essential outlets.

– Elevation of the “stay at home” requirement. It will be replaced by the “stay local” message.

– Outdoor sports training to resume for sports clubs affiliated with recognized governing bodies with no more than 15 participants in a training group. The indoor club facilities, in addition to the restrooms, will remain closed.

The Northern Ireland Executive has also amended elite sports regulations to allow for two World Cup qualifying matches scheduled for March 25 and 31, as well as a friendly match between Northern Ireland and the United States. the 28th of March.

Spectators will not be allowed at any sporting event. The April 12 easements are subject to final ratification by the Executive in the week prior to their entry into force, probably April 8.
