Health chiefs confirmed an additional 426 cases of coronavirus at a press conference this afternoon, a massive jump from just 159 yesterday.
Another 10 people died from the fatal error, bringing the total number of people who have lost their lives to 1,506.
The number of confirmed cases of the virus is now 23,827.
Speaking at tonight’s briefing, Dr. Tony Holohan said that the large increase in today’s figures was due to the results of the oldest samples being returned.
Fewer than 200 of the recently announced cases concern recent evidence.
