New mom is given six months to live after mistaking cancer for a breast infection

A mother delighted to give birth to a girl just two weeks ago has been given months to live, in a diagnosis of cancer shock.

Samantha King, 41, had felt exhausted after giving birth to her seventh child and thought she might just have a chest infection.

Gloucester’s mother visited her GP complaining that she wasn’t feeling well, and when a course of antibiotics didn’t work, she was sent to the hospital for tests, Gloucestershire Live reports.

But Miss King now faces the possibility of missing newborn Lilah and her siblings growing up after doctors gave her the news she never expected to hear.

Miss King from Tuffley had a chest X-ray and blood test done in the afternoon when Lilah was only two weeks old.

Due to the long wait for people to be seen in front of her, she was discharged to return home to Lilah.

But they called her at 11:30 pm the same day and told her to return immediately to the hospital, where they gave her the devastating news.

Her daughter Kyra Limbrick, 23, of Gloucester, said: “When Mom got the call to tell her to come in, she asked if she could wait until morning. They told her she had a clot in her lungs, if she had waited until morning it might have been too late.

“Mom was fine throughout the pregnancy. I am a caregiver and she has been helping me with my three children.

“We have always known that mom has a weak chest, but we did not expect that news.”

The diagnosis highlighted that the cancer has spread widely.

Cancer has been found in her lung, breast, and bones. She has invaded her chest cavity and a tumor has been discovered on her spine and they think she may also have blood cancer.

Doctors initially thought that Miss King could have 12 months to live, but today they told her it would be around six months.

Ms. King is currently in hospital where she is receiving immunotherapy and radiation therapy.

The former nurse is 100% dedicated to her seven children.

Kyra said, “Mom hasn’t had it easy lately. She and her family have been grieving after Grandpa’s death, and she has had a lot on her plate.

“The family is very close and that means everything to her.

“Mom had to make decisions when we were growing up, since she was a single mother. There were bills that were a priority and there were things you had to cancel because you couldn’t pay them all.

“One of the things he stopped doing two years ago was life insurance on his mortgage.

“Now she is worried that her children will have to leave their house where they have memories of her because they will have problems with the mortgage.”

The former nurse remarried. She had Nathan King, 25, Kyra Limbrick, 23, during her first marriage.

Since then, the proud mother and her current partner have five children, Libby, 10, Lacey-Mae, nine, Logan, five, Lexi, two, and baby Lilah, who is seven weeks old.

Kyra has had long conversations with her mother about her concerns for the future.

In an attempt to reassure Ms. King, they have created a Go Fund Me page to raise funds for the family and for the children to support their home.

Kyra said, “We want Mom to focus on creating memories with the children and not worry about what will happen to them when the time comes. All you want is for them to be able to keep your home.

“The only reason he canceled life insurance was because money was pretty tight at the time.

“Never in a million years did we think this would happen because she is still so young.
