The frightened fishermen who found a woman floating in the middle of the sea and who could barely speak because of the cold were surprised to find that she had been missing for two years.
The video shows the astonishing moment when Angélica Gaitán was found floating two kilometers from a beach, two years after her family lost contact with her with no idea of her whereabouts.
Angelica was so weakened by the cold that she could barely respond when spoken to, and fisherman Rolando Visbal called the woman first in Spanish and then in English, apparently trying to make sure the victim understood.
Rolando is heard yelling at the 46-year-old woman, who is seen leaning on a rubber ring with her eyes closed.
The video shows the moment when Rolando and a friend, simply identified as ‘Gustavo’ by the local media in Colombia, approach the floating woman who hardly responds.
Angelica is dragged towards the boat through a rope tied to the life preserver that the fishermen had previously thrown at her.
The local newspaper La Libertad reports that they had seen what they thought was a log in the sea, before Angélica raised her hands to ask for help.
Rolando is then seen struggling to get the unresponsive woman onto the boat.

He moves his torso just enough to help his body go over the edge and reach the boat safely.
The fishermen then try to have a conversation with her and give her water, but the woman, who is visually upset, begins to cry and remains in this state as the incredible footage comes to an end.
It is reported that she finally spoke her first words after being rescued, saying, “I was born again, God did not want me to die.”
When she was brought ashore, the friendly locals treated her before she was taken to the hospital.
Angélica was said to have lost contact with her family two years ago and they had no idea where she was until they found her floating off the coast of the town and municipality of Puerto Colombia in Colombia’s Atlántico department on Saturday, September 26.
She was later identified as Angelica and found herself in a very weakened state with signs of hypothermia.
What he had been doing in the previous two years and how he ended up at sea is being investigated by the police.
Angélica later told RCN radio that she had suffered 20 years of violence at the hands of her partner.
She fled after her partner tried to kill her, she claimed, while detailing her heartbreaking story.
She told the local radio station: “For 20 years I had a toxic relationship, I was raped by my ex-partner.
“The abuse started in the first pregnancy, he hit me, he violently abused me.
“In my second pregnancy the abuse continued and I could not get away from it because the girls were small.
“Many times I reported him but the police took him away for 24 hours and when he was back in the house, the attacks returned.
“The day I decided to leave home was after a brutal assault. In September 2018 he broke my face and tried to kill me. Thank God I managed to escape.”
He claimed to have lived in the city of Barranquilla for six months.
She was then housed in a homeless shelter after seeking help, but sank into a deep depression.
“I didn’t want to go on with my life. A lady lent me the tickets and I took a direct bus to the sea,” he said.
“I wanted to end everything, I didn’t have help from anywhere, not even from my family, because this man kept me away from my social circle, that’s why I didn’t want to continue living.”
Angelica said that she remembers “being on the seashore, I found myself in solitude and decided to jump into the sea.”
“I let him take me away and I hope this nightmare is over soon.”
His memory from this point is vague as he lost consciousness.
She said: “The man who rescued me in the middle of the sea told me that I was unconscious, floating.
“Thank God I was alive and he threw a life preserver at me. They took me to a health center where I am receiving the necessary care ”.
The woman was reportedly floating in the water for about eight hours and was taken to a hospital where she arrived in shock.
The circumstances surrounding the alarming incident remain unclear, especially after local media tracked down the woman’s daughter, Alejandra Castiblanco, who said she did not know about her mother’s whereabouts for the past two years.
He claimed that suggestions that his mother had committed suicide over a broken relationship or an attack from a former lover were false reports.
Castiblanco and his sister are raising money to transport their mother to the capital city of Bogotá, where they live, and they hope that their mother will be “cared for by the family,” it was reported.
LaLibertad reports that Angélica claims her family abandoned her after suffering domestic violence.
This was in 2018, when he allegedly moved to Ecuador to stay with his brother.
