A heartbroken mother has spoken about the devastating loss of her two-year-old daughter who tragically died from a cordon accident at her home.

ynda Redmond has opened up about the horrible circumstances in which her daughter Róisín lost her life almost six years ago.

Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ Radio One, Kilkenny’s mother described how that day in December 2014 began like no other until her world, as she knew it, was “turned upside down.”

Lynda and her partner Dave had two children: Róisín (2) and Cillian (7).

“The morning started like every morning in our house, chaos. We would take Róisín to Mom’s house and we would take Cillian to school, ”Lynda explained.

“I was at work, the day was fine… and at 5 in the afternoon I was in a warehouse, I was counting the Tommy Hilfiger jeans… I’ll never forget it… and a friend of mine came up to me and said ‘Lynda, don’t spread the word. panic, but there has been an accident at home.

“Tears started to flow, panic seized me and amazement began.”

After rushing to Waterford Hospital, it wasn’t long until Lynda heard the devastating news that her little girl had died after a blind cord accident at her home.

“A doctor came to my level and said ‘Lynda’ and I said ‘You’re going to tell me she’s dead, right?’ And she looked at me and said ‘Lynda, I am,’ ”the mother told Ryan.

“So that was it… that’s your world as you know it, it was turned upside down. Every emotion, everything you’ve ever known has just disappeared.

“But, yeah… I knew he was going to say that. I just knew. I don’t know … call it instinct, but I knew it. “

Explaining the circumstances of her daughter’s death, Lynda did not want to go into detail on the air, but told Ryan: “She was in the living room playing and it was dinner time, my son had a show that night. at his elementary school, so he was getting ready for that and I was getting ready to go home and take him to that, so it was four o’clock and Mom was home with them.

“Róisín climbed on the window and got caught in the blind rope in the living room … yes, he died.”

The then-mother of two returned to work six weeks after her daughter’s death, explaining that she was ‘torn’ between going to work and moving on, and staying home to care for her son.

In hindsight, you wish you didn’t go back to work so soon, but you explain that you didn’t know what to do.

“I would go every day [to work] and I was smiling, but while I was standing at work I was so afraid that the door would open and a mother with a blonde girl would come in, or a girl who would come in with a Frozen T-shirt, or if someone called the name Róisín ”, he explained .

“I would be petrified all day with those scenarios.”

Róisín was a huge fan of the Disney movie Frozen, a movie that Lynda can only describe as ‘magical’ as it reminds her of her beloved daughter’s family.

The beautiful blonde girl who was “full of life” has not been forgotten in the Redmond house.

“All of her toys are still in the playroom, her coat is hanging, her name is still on her bedroom door,” Lynda explained.

“Although that’s Cillian’s room now, because he wanted to move there later because it felt so safe and close to her there.”

Since Róisín’s death, Lynda has had two more children: Anna (4) and baby Brody, who was born last year.

Anna was born on Róisin’s anniversary two years later, and Lynda says she sees Róisín a lot in her four-year-old son.

“I really feel like some days there is a bit of Róisín in Anna,” he said.

“There is a spirit within Anna de Róisín. Anna even talks about Róisín even though she never met her.

“He has made up his own little idea that he lives in the sun.”
