West Ham manager David Moyes admits that his 1-0 win at his former club Everton was special.

The victory, courtesy of Tomas Soucek’s 88-minute finale, was Moyes’ first after four previous losses as opposing coach at Goodison Park since leaving the Toffees in 2013.

It was only their second win in seven games, but it placed the Hammers in 10th place, three points behind Leicester in third.

“I think always going back to your old clubs is special,” Moyes said, on the first anniversary of the first game of his second term in charge.

“I had a great time here, great years, but I want to do it again at West Ham and that means going and winning at the other clubs.

“Coming here tonight and winning was really important: Everton are in a great moment, they have been playing well, they have gotten great results and they have had the opportunity to go second, so you cannot underestimate what it would mean for Everton, and we were at the end of our third game in six days. “

After that effort, Moyes will give the players four days off and is closing the club’s training ground.

He insisted it was not because Ryan Fredericks tested positive for Covid-19, which ruled him out of this game, but admits that it will give them a break and a chance to do a deep cleaning.

“Ryan is fine, he had a positive result, so we just started,” he added.

“We’re going to make sure we give the players four days off so they can have some time and we’ll make sure we close the training ground for a few days because it’s so bad Covid right now.

“The only reason is so we can get another clean one and keep people out, they haven’t told us to do that and it’s not because of the only Covid player we have.

“It’s mainly because we want to give the players a break and it means that we are trying to do our best.

“We want everyone to take responsibility. It’s very difficult right now with Covid. “
