Closure orders have been issued at a Dublin sushi restaurant and a Waterford-based Asian food business citing rodent infestations posing a serious risk to human health.

The Dublin restaurant was named by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) as Shiro Sushi, 10 Moore Street, operated by Boteco Quality Foods Limited.

The closure order, delivered to the secretary of the company Verano Damas Neto, cited a report by an HSE inspector who concluded that a mouse infestation in the restaurant represented a “serious and immediate danger to public health.”

The report noted “large accumulations of dirt in the kitchen,” including food preparation surfaces, “to such an extent that food, including sushi / sashimi, is likely to be contaminated.”

A small meat manufacturing plant in Co Longford also received a ban order under the Food Safety Authority Act. Townparks Industrial Estate’s Valhalla Meats Limited ban notice, which has since been lifted, cites a range of products that it said should be retired. These included a deer carcass; 10 bone trays and side dishes; fillet trays; diced beef, beef short ribs and roast beef.
