The report of the Maternal and Child Homes Investigation Commission will be published in January.
The announcement was made in the Dáil by the Minister for Children, Roderic O’Gorman.
O’Gorman confirmed that he will present a memorandum to the government on January 11 to publish the report that week.
He said he spoke with former residents and survivors and obtained their opinions and concerns about the release of the report.
O’Gorman said they will be the first to be notified about the post and how to access it and the work is at an advanced stage.
He said posting it around Christmas would have been inappropriate, so it will be released in the second week of January.
The minister also noted that there will be counseling services for survivors and former residents at the time of publication.
The final report was delivered to the minister on October 30.
The Attorney General’s Office received additional resources to ensure that the report could be reviewed as quickly as possible.
