Other counties will likely move to Level 3 restrictions, but it is not inevitable, the acting medical director said.

In a video message Friday night, Dr. Ronan Glynn called on the public to “take personal responsibility” and urged people to continue to limit their social contacts.

In particular, he pointed to those living in Dublin and Donegal, who are already under a Level 3 lockdown.

He also indicated that Louth, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork and Galway are areas where further measures could be introduced.

And he urged people in these counties to follow the lead of Limerick and Tipperary, two areas where cases have recently dropped significantly.

In a clip shared on Twitter, Dr. Glynn said: “I am asking people everywhere, particularly in Donegal and Dublin, and more broadly in Louth, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork and Galway to pay special attention to advice. public health.

“I ask each individual to take personal responsibility for prioritizing who they need to see. Limit the use of your social network and reduce your social contacts in the coming days and weeks.

“While there is the possibility that other areas of the country will have to go to Level 3, there is nothing inevitable about that.

“We have seen before in Limerick and Tipperary and possibly in the last few days in Waterford, how people working together can take control and turn the tide of this virus.

“But even in these counties, people have to keep going. Keep making the right decisions and deny Covid the opportunity to broadcast.”
