THIS is the moment Romeo, in love, arrived after an epic 40-kilometer journey across the Irish Sea on a jet ski to see his girlfriend, with only 10 MINUTES of fuel.
Dale McLaughlan, 28, spent 4.5 hours on the machine, never having used one before, after setting sail from Whithorn Island, Wigtownshire, on Friday.
The roofer, from Irvine, Ayrshire, thought the journey would only take him 40 minutes, but spent hours crossing the Irish Sea due to bad weather.
Stunned local Noel Corlett captured the moment he arrived at the island’s port of Ramsey on Friday afternoon.
In the snapshots, the Scottish dad may be sporting a hat with the Scottish flag and a bright orange backpack.
A law enforcement source said today that McLaughlan had only 10 minutes of fuel left in his tank when he arrived.
The 28-year-old was jailed yesterday after he admitted arriving illegally in violation of Manx Covid rules in a desperate attempt to see his lover Jessica Radcliffe.
He was locked up for four weeks after Friday’s stunt and will miss Christmas with his kids.
In sentencing in the island’s Douglas courthouse, Deputy Chief Sheriff Christopher Arrowsmith said he made a “deliberate and intentional attempt to circumnavigate” the border restrictions.
He also stressed that he put himself “in very real risk” of suffering damage from the crossing.
But amusing Scots have insisted that the Ayrshire boy should be REWARDED for his romantic gesture and not punished.
A Scottish Sun reader said: “Imprisoned? Get that man a statue erected in honor of this noble feat.”
Another wrote: “Get yourself a guy who goes out of his way just to see you, definitely relationship goals.”
The day before his insane sea voyage, McLaughlan had purchased a jet ski and towed it 70 miles from his home in Irvine to a beach on Whithorn Island.
The court heard that he had never ridden a personal watercraft before embarking on the trip to Ramsey.
He then walked 15 miles to his girlfriend’s house in Douglas, after struggling to be apart for months.
On Saturday, he told police that his girlfriend’s address was his, before the couple partied at two busy clubs.
It was then robbed on Sunday after ID checks.
The roofer, who worked on the island in September, made the plan after his last work permit was rejected.
Last night, her mother Allison said: “She could have killed herself.
“I don’t know why he did it. He will miss his kids at Christmas.”
Public health officials said last night they are “satisfied” that there is no risk to the public.
The Isle of Man’s current Level 4 Covid system allows those residents to take non-essential travel beyond the island, but they must self-isolate for 14 days upon return.
Those who do not live on the island must complete a registration form and receive an entry certificate in order to enter.
There have been just 373 confirmed cases of Covid-19 on the Isle of Man since March, with four current cases, none of which are in hospital.
