A woman who has been missing for five days may have made an appointment with a man on the last day she was seen by her family.
Arlene Donnelly, 36, left the Twinbrook family home she shares with her mother, Jean, and brother, Greg, last Sunday.
He had told his mother that he was meeting a friend who lives on Hamill Street.
But Arlene never made it home, and her friend has confirmed to the Donnelly family that she has not been in contact with Arlene for months.
Arlene, who volunteered at the Oxfam store on Fountain Street, Belfast, is known to have recently signed up for a dating app and met a man for a walk.
Her brother Greg told Belfast Live: “We are very concerned about her. We’ve been looking everywhere for her and calling everyone we know she knows. But no one has seen it.
“Arlene is a quiet, shy and shy girl. She is not very confident and is a house bird.
“She left the house last Sunday and told Mom that she was going to see her friend who lives on Hamill Street and we were waiting for her at home. But she never came home that night and it was the next night before we could get a phone number for that friend.
“I just hoped she had stayed there, but the girl said she hadn’t seen Arlene in months. I don’t know why he told us he was going there. We were told that you had joined a dating service, so maybe you were meeting someone and you just didn’t want to say it. She didn’t tell us, so I don’t know.
“We had a possible sighting of her in Ballycastle and we were just there today looking for her.
“We have no connection to Ballycastle and the description of his clothes was incorrect. But it was the first information we got.
“And this afternoon we were told that there was another sighting of her on Ballycastle beach around 11:40 am Thursday with a man in a wheelchair.
“It’s totally out of the question for Arlene to disappear like this. She had never done it before. We are a close family and we always tend to know what the other person is doing.
“Right now I’m trying to keep Mom distracted and calm, but we’re both very worried. I would ask everyone to see the photos of Arlene and please tell us if you have seen her and where you have seen her. We just need to know that he is safe. “
Arlene volunteers at the Oxfam store on Fountain Street, Belfast, where her boss Tra Walls described her as “calm and friendly”.
Tra said, “She would be vulnerable in the way that she couldn’t speak for herself. She is a quiet girl, but once you meet her she is very funny and loves to join in everything we do.
“You recently mentioned that you joined a dating app and met someone for a walk. There was talk that she had been planning to meet someone on Sunday, but we have not confirmed this.
“I hope he is somewhere having the best time of his life, but I am worried, very worried.
“I would tell anyone who thinks they saw Arlene to call the police on 101. Disappearing for days and days is not what Arlene does and we all want to make sure she is safe.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Arlene is described as 5’6” tall, with a slim build and shoulder length dark brown hair.
“Information received by the police suggests that Arlene was seen in the company of a man in a wheelchair in Ballycastle on Wednesday afternoon. Arlene is believed to have been wearing a white sweater and a black coat with a leopard fur collar.
“Officers would ask Arlene or anyone who knows her whereabouts to contact them in Woodbourne at 101 quoting the reference number 1797 09/29/20 or to submit a report online using our non-reporting form. emergency via http: //www.psni.police .uk / makeareport /. “
