LOTS of milk have been recalled from Irish stores for fear of microbiological contamination.
The affected products were sold in Aldi, Spar, Gala and Mace stores nationwide.
A message on the Irish Food Safety website reads: “Arrabawn Co-op is recalling certain batches of milk that are potentially unsafe due to the presence of Enterobacteriaceae bacteria.
“The notices of withdrawal of points of sale will be displayed in the stores that are supplied with the lots involved.”
Enterobacteriaceae are a group of bacteria, some of which can be harmful to humans.
The Enterobacteriaceae test is used as an indicator of poor hygiene, process failures, and / or post-processing contamination of thermally processed foods.
The test itself does not confirm the presence of harmful bacteria.
The Irish Food Safety Authority added: “Retailers are requested to remove the involved lots from sale and to display a point of sale recall notice in stores where the affected lots were sold.
“Caterers should not use the lots involved.”
Last month, Dunnes Stores issued an urgent recall of all batches of its My Family Favorites Cooked Chicken Bits and its Cooked Chicken Tikka Bits.
Products have been removed from shelves due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
All lot codes and all expiration dates were removed from the 240g packages.
