Gardaí is asking for witnesses after a fatal traffic collision near Ballyhaunis last night.
Shortly before 11 p.m., Gardaí received a report of a serious collision on the N60 Ballyhaunis to Ballinlough Road in the Coolnafarna area near the border with Roscommon.
The collision involved a car traveling towards Ballinlough on the N60. A man (19) was declared dead at the scene and another man (21) was taken by ambulance to the Mayo University Hospital; his injuries are not believed to be serious.
The place was attended by Gardaí, Fire and Ambulance personnel. The road is currently closed with detours through Cloonfad from the Ballyhaunis side and also from Ballinlough. It is expected to remain closed for the morning while a forensic collision investigation is conducted.
