Mickey Harte was ratified tonight as Louth’s new Senior Soccer Manager.
Tyrone’s former boss just vacated the hot seat in his home county and has served as a senior manager since 2003.
While in expert service recently, Harte made it known that he was interested in staying in the management game and Louth acted very quickly. Wee County reached out and has been in regular contact for the last week and a half.
And after a meeting tonight, the county board’s management committee approved a three-year term for clubman Errigal Ciaran.
Joining Louth’s new backroom team is his right-hand man Gavin Devlin, who served alongside him for the past several years with Tyrone.
The couple will also look after the county’s U-20 team.
Harte’s appointment will be a huge boost for Louth, who is proactively planning for the future after suffering relegation to Division 4 from the Allianz Football League just a few weeks ago.
“We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Mickey and Gavin to Louth and look forward to working closely with them over the three years,” a statement read.
Despite that decline, the county is moving forward with plans to develop both on and off the field.
A new site with a capacity of 14,000 people was recently approved to go ahead at a cost of € 12 million and located on the Dundalk Inner Relief Road.
Meanwhile, former Louth senior footballer and coach Colin Kelly was recently appointed as the academy team coordinator.
His appointment came on the recommendation of a special review by Louth GAA’s 16-person development group in which four specific group leaders (Kelly, Seamus O’Hanlon, Eamonn McEneaney, and Derek Crilly) and subcommittees were identified and established.
But Harte’s appointment as senior manager is a major blow for a county that needs a boost to try to reverse its soccer fortunes.
