We started off with a fascinating mare run in Wincanton and it’s no wonder Nicky Henderson’s Sunrise Ruby is near the top of the scoreboard here as the top trainer is operating at a strike rate of about 30% in this moment. However, this is a good contest with smart mares, none better than Paul Nicholls Cheltenham festival winner Eglantine Du Seuil.
She had a surprise winning at the festival last year at 50/1 and ran a very good race on a very competitive handicap at the Dublin Racing Festival this year, so she still has a lot of skill and a good claimer from £ 5 to board, she has to be respected after a wind operation.
IT’S PROBABLY ME It’s interesting here too, it’s only five years old and it might as well be improving. He had a very good run behind Marie’s Rock in decent competition at Taunton and won at Doncaster on difficult terrain. She has a featherweight on her back in the form of Richard Patrick and it has to be of interest, which is why she is the one who gets the nod.

GREAT SANCY he won very easily at Chepstow on a similar trip and came close to having a major shock here last year when he raced a great race against Rifle Raffles in the Elite Hurdle. He’s a seasoned newbie and that will help him as he’s giving Ga Law 14 pounds. This four year old won very well at Fontwell and Exeter. If there is any flaw in Grand Sancy, it will be exploited.
Call Me Lord won the International Hurdle at Cheltenham last season beating Chtibello, but Chtibello is 10 pounds better here; with that, it should be more than enough to reverse the difference in length and a half that separated them last time. Last year he ran an incredible Grade One race over the field and the distance behind Supasundae on soft ground with Summerville Boy behind and that makes me want to take a chance on Dan Skelton’s horse at a decent price.

He only looked the real deal when he fled with the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton in February, but disappointed with the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. It is a huge horse that will definitely be better when you go chasing it. If he can give weight to some of his rivals in this contest, he will decide where he will race for the rest of the season.
It seems that Master Debonair excelled in slow running races last season and finished well beaten in third place when he stepped up on the journey. The slower they go, the better their chances, as their jump is a bit fishy. Diego du Charmil has run and also ROYAL SEAL.
Sceau Royal is probably best known as a hunter these days, but he ran away with the Welsh Hurdles Champion at Ffos Las and beat a good yardstick in the process. He also won this race four years ago. He was defeated as a favorite at Kingwell Hurdle by Grand Sancy last year when they hacked. Sceau Royal could use a gallop, if not, Solo May would take advantage.
This is the Badger Beer Handicap Chase and the previous two-time winner Present Man is back for more. The terrain is ideal for him and he is behind a win at the Veteran Chase game in Chepstow. Danny Whizzbang was very disappointing at the Reynoldstown Novice Hunt at Ascot and he had a great opportunity.
He has no experience in a race like this and can compete with a bit of enthusiasm. He is a good jumper, but his lack of running is a concern. JUST ONE SING it’s one that I really like here. He was fourth in last year’s race and comes from a similar mark with a very good fresh record.
The other one to highlight is Kitty’s Light. He gets 10 pounds from a 4yo and he won really well at Exeter so he comes in here in great shape. Kitty’s Light and Just a Sting are the two to look out for, but Just A Sting gets the nod.
13:50 Wincanton – it’s probably me
14:25 Wincanton – Grand Sancy
14:40 Aintree – Chtibello
15:00 Wincanton – Royal seal
15:35 Wincanton – Just one sting
