Met Eireann issued an immediate snow warning for eight counties with a separate alert for seven areas when Storm Bella hits.

There is a snow / ice warning for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo Winter showers today and tonight with some possible accumulations

Met Eireann predicted a risk of icy sections on untreated surfaces.

The warning is valid from 06:00 am this morning until Monday morning at 7 am.

Met Eireann issued a yellow wind status warning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.

The warning will be valid from 18:00 on Sunday until Monday at 14:00.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Sunday will be a very cold and windy day with spells of sunshine and frequent rain, some with the risk of hail, sleet or snow.

“Heavy rains can merge into bands extending from the northwest at night. Highest afternoon temperatures only 3 to 7 degrees with moderate to cool gusty westerlies.

“A band of downpours will move southeast over the country early Sunday night, turning to sleet and snow in the north and east.
