Met Eireann update forecast as ‘nasty’ weather front just hours from Ireland

Ireland is prepared for stormy weather Tuesday night with a low pressure system moving across the country.

Forecasters expect the system to arrive Tuesday night with strong winds, heavy rain and the possibility of flooding.

Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather described the approaching system as “unpleasant” with weather warnings from Met Eireann that could arrive in the next 24 hours.

Met Eireann this morning updated its forecast and is predicting that the weather front will hit most areas on Tuesday.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Tuesday will be generally dry with good periods of sunshine, the best of which will be in the north and east. Cloudier with frequent stormy showers in the southern and western counties, some of the which will move inward.

“Higher temperatures 6-10 degrees with moderate to cool southerly winds. Later in the afternoon, clouds will rise from the south before heavy rains, accompanied by high winds.

“Tuesday night: a humid and windy night. A low pressure system will move from the south over the country bringing strong and gusty winds with gales on the south and east coasts, along with heavy rains throughout the country, which will bring a risk of coastal and surface flooding.

“The lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees will occur early in the evening.”

Wednesday will also start wet and windy, but the stormy weather is not expected to linger for long.

The Met Eireann forecaster said: “Wet and windy to start on Wednesday. Strong and gusty winds mainly from the south will drift to the southwest during the afternoon and gradually decrease.

“The rain will clear towards the northeast with scattered showers from the Atlantic. The highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.

“Dry overnight for most, but scattered rains will continue to pour in from the Atlantic, mainly affecting the west and northwest areas. The lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees will occur around dawn. Some patches of fog and mist will melt away. will develop mild to moderate south to southwest breezes. ”
