Met Eireann Issues New Immediate Snow Advisory for Six Counties Ahead of ‘Heavy’ Falls

Met Eireann has issued a new snow advisory for six counties that begins today at 2pm.

The national forecaster’s yellow snow and ice status warning for the entire country begins at 6 p.m., but a group of counties are expected to see winter rains even before that.

Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick are all under the alert which lasts until 6pm; all counties will fall under the original 18-hour warning.

The warning reads: “Winter showers coming in this afternoon and evening with some falling hail, sleet and snow. Icy and dangerous conditions.”

The entire country also remains under a weather advisory with a forecast of unusually cold conditions.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Frost, ice and accumulated snow will remain today in some areas. There will be a lot of dry and sunny weather across the country, but during this afternoon and evening an organized band of winter showers will approach from the Atlantic.

“Winter showers will gradually spread northeast across Munster and Connacht, bringing snow in some places, but will remain mostly dry elsewhere. Highs 2-5 degrees in most southwest or variable breezes.

“During the night, a strip of winter downpours will extend northeastward across the country bringing sleet and snow falls in many areas with some accumulations. Cold and icy with a widespread hard frost with minimum temperatures of -4 to zero degrees with light breezes cooling in some areas in the morning. “
