Louth, Cavan and Monaghan will join eight other counties under a snow and ice warning.
Met Eireann is also forecasting a major freeze for Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Antrim, Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.
Temperatures are expected to plummet to -2 ° C tonight, and will not improve much in the coming days.

“Showers will be more frequent in the afternoon, especially along the eastern shores. Higher temperatures 3 ° C to 6 ° C, but it will feel cooler with the cool, gusty winds from the north.
“The remaining showers or longer periods of rain in the eastern areas will gradually clear to the southeast overnight and dry up in many areas with clear periods.
“However, the rains will persist in parts of the west and northwest, with a continuing risk of hail. Lows of -1 ° C to 3 ° C.
“The northwesterly winds will drop from light to moderate overnight, but the coasts will remain cool.”
