Met Eireann has issued a four-day weather advisory with snow and freezing temperatures to engulf Ireland next week.
The national tipster’s notice will begin at 6 a.m. M. From Sunday morning and will be in effect until 6 p.m. M. From Wednesday.
Meteorologists warn that temperatures will drop to zero even during the day, with the possibility of significant snowfall at all times.
The alert reads: “Sundays, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be very cold with low temperatures during the day and with strong or severe frosts and ice patches at night.
“Sleet showers or snow sometimes in eastern counties from Sunday night onward.
“Dangerous conditions on highways and roads”.
The extremely cold weather is the result of north winds and has the potential to bring long-lasting snowfall.
Met Eireann’s Liz Walsh added: “Our weather is expected to become progressively colder from the early hours of Sunday 7th February, and now it seems likely that the cold snap will last into next week.
“The origin of the cold air over Scandinavia will bring a northeast or eastern component to the wind flow over Ireland.
“That wind will be especially noticeable on Sunday and Monday with gusts from east to northeast that are likely to produce a significant wind chill factor.”
