A weather advisory has been issued for nine counties with stormy conditions that will hit Ireland on Tuesday night.

Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford will be under yellow status warning starting Tuesday night at 9 p.m.

The wind warning will be in effect until 9 am the next morning.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “South winds will reach average speeds of 50 to 65 km / h with gusts of up to 100 km / h. There will be a risk of coastal flooding.”

Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather described the approaching system as “unpleasant” as much of the country will be affected by strong winds.

A forecaster from Met Eireann added: “Tuesday will be generally dry with good periods of sunshine, the best of which will be in the north and east. Cloudier with frequent torrential rains in the southern and western counties, some of which they will move further inland.

“Higher temperatures 6-10 degrees with moderate to cool southerly winds. Later in the afternoon, clouds will rise from the south before heavy rains, accompanied by high winds.

“Tuesday night: a humid and windy night. A low pressure system will move from the south over the country bringing strong and gusty winds with gales on the south and east coasts, along with heavy rains throughout the country, which will bring a risk of coastal and surface flooding.

“The lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees will occur early in the evening.”
