MEATH legend Sean Boylan says he’s ‘baffled’ that Dublin broke the GAA training ban with his secret sunrise session.

He told The Irish Independent, who originally published the story, that it left him ‘shocked’.

He said, “I don’t want to bring people down.

“But what they did puzzles me. Maybe I say it as someone who suffered with Covid last year. And he is a thief. Really is.

“I lost 10 kilos in six days and developed pneumonia, so I am very grateful and blessed to have made a great recovery.

“I can understand boredom and the feeling of wanting to go out, but this really surprised me.”

INTERNAL PUNISHMENT

Dublin GAA has recognized that it was a “serious error of judgment” and has imposed a sanction of 12 weeks to the technician Dessie Farrell although it was not present in the session.

A statement from the county board read: “The Dublin GAA acknowledges that following an investigation this afternoon, there was a violation of Covid-19 guidelines yesterday morning.

“The County Management Committee has suspended Dublin’s senior soccer manager Dessie Farrell for 12 weeks with immediate effect.

“Dublin’s top management and football players acknowledge that this is a serious error of judgment and fully apologize for their actions.”

Farrell’s suspension is effective immediately and will not expire until June 24.

This means that the entire NFL “Division 1 South” campaign will be missed, which will likely begin the weekend of May 15/16.

The Dubs are in the Regional Division along with Kerry, Roscommon and Galway, which is scheduled to move forward when the GAA’s Covid Advisory Committee reveals its match schedule for the year next week.

They may be forced to concede home advantage in an NFL game, and fines could also be up for grabs if the GAA finds that the incident warrants additional punishment.
