A Mayo plumber whose cousin is US presidential candidate Joe Biden has turned his truck into a career advertisement.
Heating and plumbing contractor Joe Blewitt of Knockmore, Co. Mayo has emblazoned his truck with the slogan “Joe Biden for the White House and Joe Blewitt for his home” in support of his cousin’s candidacy for the United States presidency.
Also in the back of Blewitt’s truck is a photo of Biden, who previously served as vice president of the United States and is now facing incumbent President Donald Trump as a Democratic Party candidate.

Blewitt, who is the father of three, told the Irish Examiner how the art of the van came to be: “One day I was doing a job in Ballina and couldn’t find parking. So I approached this man, who used to write posters for me before. “
He said he talked to the writer, Barry Williams, about getting a new job done on the truck: “He said, ‘I’ve got something for you, come to me now during the week.’ And it was he who came up with the idea for the signage. “
Images of the plumber’s truck have been widely shared on social media, and Blewitt said the reaction had been “crazy.”
Mayo’s location is close to his American cousin, and he told the newspaper that he visited the White House when former President Barack Obama presented Biden with the Medal of Freedom.
Mr Biden has also traveled to Ireland: “We met him before when he was at home in Ireland. He came to Ballina and joined us for lunch at a local restaurant. It was lovely. He came back then again, without all the security and that was better. We had a little time to sit down and chat with him. He’s a lovely guy, a down-to-earth man, a family man. “
Blewitt endorsed his cousin’s presidential race: “He’s a good politician, he knows what he’s doing. It’s not starting out like some of them if you understand what I’m saying. “
