Adapted from Eric Jager’s book of the same name, The Last Duel follows the true story of Jean de Carrouges (Damon), a 14th-century knight who embarks on a fight to the death with his former friend Jacques Le Gris (Driver) after accuse him of raping his wife.

The Last Duel marks the first comeback of Damon’s writing partnership with Ben Affleck since his award-winning screenplay for Good Will Hunting.
Matt co-wrote the script with Nicole Holofcener and her former writing partner Ben, the latter also starring in the film, although he was not seen on set.

Originally Matt and Ben were going to play the two lead roles in the film, but they ran into scheduling conflicts due to the Ben movie Deep Water, so now he’s set to play King Charles VI, while Adam Driver was chosen to take over the movie. role of Le Gris.
Filming on the film began in February in France, but the set was closed in March due to the pandemic and travel restrictions in Europe.
