The literal Manchester United captain has suggested they “were a bit complacent” against Arsenal after winning a game in a row and ranking 15th in the Premier League table.

Harry Maguire was the only Manchester United player to have had more than one shot at Old Trafford in the 1-0 loss to Arsenal, ending the match with as many attempts on goal as punts at the other end (4).

It feels like the impressive midweek win in the Champions League over Leipzig caused a lack of “focus” and a general feeling of “complacency” in an entire team that had won a game in a row and was 15th in the table.

“It’s hard to point the finger at it,” he said. Sky sports. “We did not start the game well, we gave the ball too much in the first half.

“We can’t find excuses, so we just have to look inward. We didn’t do it from the beginning.

“I don’t think there is any concentration in the first half, in terms of cleaning the pass. Maybe we were a little complacent, everyone was patting us on the back.

“But you win and you lose, and you have to keep your sanity. It’s a long season.

“I can’t point my finger at it. We will analyze it this week. We have another great game on Wednesday and we have to move fast and we have to improve.

“It was a cautious game. A game of few chances. They probably had a chance or two, a little more than us. We needed to do more, we needed to create more.

“It was important to start the game well and we didn’t start it well enough.

“We just give away the ball too much. If you play any Premier League match and give the ball away as much as we did, especially in that first half, you are not going to win football matches.

“It’s not good enough. Tomorrow we have to work hard to train and improve.”
