Sadly, a man was killed in a collision on the southbound M50 this afternoon.
The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. between Junction 12 Firhouse and Junction 13 Ballinteer.
Emergency services rushed onto the busy highway but were unable to save the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A garda spokesperson told Dublin Live that one lane of traffic remains closed southbound after the collision.
He said: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a fatal traffic collision on the M50 southbound between junctions 12 and 13 that occurred at approximately 2:50 pm, this afternoon of Tuesday, September 8. 2020.
“A male driver has been pronounced dead at the scene.
“Forensic collision investigators are on the scene and one lane of traffic is currently closed southbound.”
Travelers have been advised to avoid the area if possible and use alternative routes.
The Dublin Fire Brigade warned that travelers can expect “severe delays” in the area.
They tweeted: “Severe delays on M50 J12 Firhouse – J13 Ballinteer heading south as we attend a serious collision. One lane currently closed. Avoid if possible.”
