A man was arrested after a woman died in an alleged hit-and-run in Co Kildare on Monday night.
The Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly after 8 pm after the pedestrian was discovered seriously injured on Thomas Street in Newbridge.
It is understood that the woman, who was in her 40s, was hit by a vehicle, which later appears to have fled the scene. The woman was rushed by ambulance to Naas General Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted, the result of which will determine the course of the Garda investigation. The local coroner has also been notified of the death, Gardaí said.
The man, who is in his 50s, was arrested Tuesday night and is being held at Kildare Garda station.
An Garda Síochána is calling for witnesses to the incident to come forward. A Garda spokesperson said that “anyone who has witnessed this incident or who has camera footage (including dash cam) of the area at the time should contact the investigating Gardaí.”
