A 50-YEAR-OLD MAN died after experiencing hardship while swimming in Youghal, Co Cork this afternoon.
The alarm was raised at 4 p.m. amid reports that a swimmer from Cork City had gone missing in the Caliso Bay area in Youghal.
The crew of the Youghal RNLI responded and the lifeboat was launched within minutes. The crew spotted the man in the water shortly before 4.30pm today. They quickly brought him on board.
CPR was performed in the lifeboat. The man was brought to shore and more CPR and first aid were carried out.
However, a local doctor declared him dead at the scene.
The man’s remains have been taken to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The members of Youghal RNLI have offered their “sincerest condolences” to the family of the deceased. Gardaí is treating death as a tragic accident.
