POLICE in West Belfast is investigating after the body of a male teenager was recovered from a river.
The body was recovered in the Twinbrook area in the early hours of Saturday.
In a brief statement, they added that a 19-year-old has been detained “as part of the investigation.”
Detective Inspector Miskelly said: “I can confirm that the body of an adolescent male has been recovered from a river in Twinbrook, West Belfast, during the early hours of today, Tuesday January 2.”

It is understood that while no formal identification has been made, the family of teenager Conor Kerr, who was reported missing on New Year’s Day, has been informed.
Sinn Fein MLA Orlaithi Flynn has expressed his condolences following the discovery of the body of a teenage girl in the Twinbrook area of West Belfast.
The West Belfast MLA said: “The discovery of the body of a teenager in Twinbrook is a shock to the local community.
“A police investigation into the incident is under way and should be allowed to continue unimpeded.
“My condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the young man who has passed away at this time.
“Anyone with information about the incident should submit it to the PSNI.”
