Leeds United defender Luke Ayling spoke to LUTV following Monday’s loss to Wolves.
The Whites suffered their first home defeat of the season in the Premier League, with a deflected shot from Raúl Jiménez that earned Nuno Espirito Santo’s team three points.
Ayling gave her reflection on the game and is now looking positively forward to Friday’s clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park.
“I think we are still learning, we are only five games away from a new season and I think we have learned that we have to take risks when they arrive,” Ayling said.
“I thought we had good opportunities and they probably had two really good opportunities and took one of them.
“We started well, we went in a lot from the sides and they changed their shape a bit and they changed things a bit and they caused us some problems in the second half.
“I think we started slow in the second half and you can’t afford to do it in the Premier League and they punished us.
“You never like to lose a goal like that, it was a shot of nothing from the edge of the area that the goalkeeper would probably have saved and it takes a big detour, but that’s football and these things can happen.”
“It’s a little lesson learned, but we can’t sit around and think about it for long, we have a game on Friday now, it’s a very quick turnaround, which is good, we’ll put it on the bed and move on.
Ayling also spoke about captain Liam Cooper, who had to withdraw from the starting lineup after suffering a strain in the warm-up.
“We knew Liam was ready to play, he worked really hard even to get a chance to play and unfortunately it all happened too fast.
“Pascal trained there all week, he knew he was going to get a chance to play, so he came in and played very well.
“It was a bit difficult to accept, but these things can happen.”
