TWO PEOPLE HAD TO be rescued by the Irish Coast Guard at Howth today, after being trapped in a ‘precarious’ position on the cliffs.

The coast guard received reports this afternoon of two people, an adult and a teenager, who were stuck 50 feet above the shoreline while attempting to scale the 100-foot cliff near Baily’s lighthouse in Howth.

A rescue team led the couple to another team atop the cliff.

A spokesman for the Irish Coast Guard said: “Both air and ground Coast Guard rescue teams quickly reached the scene and located an adult and adolescent trapped in a very precarious position on the cliffs requiring immediate removal. “.

The teenager sustained a leg injury while attempting to climb the cliff and had to be carried by stretcher to an ambulance.

“This was a lucky escape for the two victims. Due to the quick response from the public in calling 999 and giving a precise location of the incident, rescue teams were able to quickly deploy, ”the spokesman said.

“We will continue to encourage people to contact the Coast Guard at 999 or 112 if they see anyone who may have problems in the water, on the cliffs or on the beach. Never assume someone else has made the call. “
