A daughter who offered the person who saved her father from being beaten in the Luas “a big bag of cans” contacted the hero of the party.

On Monday, his 65-year-old father was brutally assaulted by a bully after he refused to let him sit in the seat directly next to him on the Luas Red Line in Tallaght, Dublin.

The crazed passenger roared “Who the hell do you think you are?” and hit Dublin’s dad, leaving him with a black eye, while pouring coffee on him too, Dublin Live reports.

His daughter Kat said: “Dad was sitting in one of the two seats next to each other, where the outer seat is currently blocked due to the ongoing pandemic.

“A man came up without a mask and tried to sit next to my dad.

“When Dad refused, he yelled ‘who the hell do you think you are? I’ll sit wherever the fuck I want’, threw the coffee in his face and punched him in the face.”

It was then that the mysterious man, now known as the wonderful Marius, intervened.

The 26-year-old, who has been living in Ireland for 10 years, protected Kat’s father by defending himself against the dangerous bully and ensuring that it would be the first and last blow he would receive.

He said: “The man who attacked Kat’s father got on the Luas.

He approached Kat’s father trying to sit next to him. But due to Covid regulations, you are not supposed to sit next to someone.

“Therefore, Kat’s father asked the man to go somewhere else to sit, as the Luas was quite empty and there were many seats.

“However, the man did not do that and began to verbally abuse him.”

Kat’s father put his arm across the seat and explained that he couldn’t sit there, but the angry passenger kept pulling his arm away to sit down and that’s when things got violent.

Marius continued: “Shortly after I threw the coffee cup at him, the fight started and hit him. Fair play with Kat’s father, although he was able to push the man away a bit, then he fell on me.

“He got up and kept trying to hit him, so I went over and climbed on the man, pushed him away from Kat’s father and got between them to stop the fight.”

Marius said that the attacker tried to attack him at that moment, but was able to push him away easily.

He continued: “Finally, the attacker took another seat and continued with the verbal abuse, but at that point I was next to Kat’s father to make sure he was okay and to avoid further escalation of the fight. I reported it once I got off at my stop to go to work. “

Kat said Marius was a life saver and is happy to keep up her offer of gratitude for his help.

She added: “I knew it was a long shot trying to find him and that it would take a little magic.

“I will gladly buy him that big bag of cans for helping my dad, we are both extremely grateful for what he did.”

Gardai is understood to be investigating this matter and asking those who witnessed the attack to come forward.

A spokeswoman for Transdev, the company behind Luas, added: “We are aware of the incident and it is being investigated within Luas and by Gardai.”
