A cabinet meeting is underway to scrap the finer details of the exit plan from the Irish blockade.

The ministers arrived this afternoon before the decision that will mark Christmas for everyone in Ireland.

The cabinet subcommittee met for five hours Thursday night and a final full cabinet decision is expected before 6 p.m., when the Taoiseach will deliver a national address.

Here are the comments of some of the Ministers when they arrived for the crucial meeting.

Minister Stephen Donnelly

“I’ll tell you what I think we should be very happy with, the conversation that we’re having is how do we open Ireland for December, how do we open Ireland for Christmas.

“There are tough decisions that need to be made, no question about that, but in Europe, the conversations my counterparts are having are about how to stop an escalation in Covid deaths …

Minister Simon Harris

“It has been a very long six weeks for the people of our country, it has been a very long year for the people of our country.

“What we’re going to do today is look at public health advice and how we can have a safe Christmas and a meaningful Christmas.

“Christmas is going to happen, Santa is going to arrive, the Toy Show is on.

“To be honest, my priority for Christmas as the priority for many people would be to see family …”

The minister added that he “hopes not” when asked if it will be a choice between family and hospitality in December.
