Lockdown Shopping Ireland: Dublin Penneys madness as hundreds wait for hours in line at Dundrum for 24 hours

These were the bizarre scenes at Penneys in Dundrum Town Center when hundreds of people formed a massive queue at the recently reopened 24-hour store before midnight last night.

Shoppers lined up for miles in the cold last night as two Dublin Penneys stayed open all night for the first time.

Anxious overnight shoppers like Alan Devane and Shane Coppinger thought it would be smart to drop her off late – or early, whatever you look at – to pick up a few things.

But they were wrong when the incredibly long lines filtered around the crowded parking lot in Dundrum.

Alan told Dublin Live: “We went to Dundrum and we thought we would beat the crowd, but the queues were gigantic.”

“Our friend John asked us to get him a new wallet because he always loses it, but he will have to wait until later in the week.”

Shopper Shane added: “We had those plans for a long midnight walk Canned sadly.

“I wanted to see if I could get him some pajamas for my friend Pat, he has had the same reindeer for the last decade, they have holes and everything, the boy is like 25.”

Long lines of bargain fans also braved the harsh winter cold at Blanchardstown Mall, the second 24-hour store.

A woman whose sister thought she could skip the crowds at 9 p.m. was sadly mistaken.

She told Dublin Live: “I think people thought it would be a little quieter if they went up later, my sister was there at 9pm and she said it was crazy.”

Many online commenters shared their shock at the scenes with some jokes “There’ll be shit left by the time it gets here!”

But others weren’t so impressed by the long lines and shared their dismay at seeing so many crowds just hours after the lifting of Level 5 restrictions in Ireland.
